The club had teams in all the races and all produced sterling performances, with victory in the U16 mixed, runner up position in U12 beginners, U14 mixed, Ladies & Men’s races, Bronze was the reward for our U12’s

Two weeks later it was the turn of Kilmacsimon and Rosscarbery to host their regattas, again the rowers of the Galley produced a fine display, the U16 mixed again winning in Ross while the other teams brought home an array of silver & bronze medal winning positions.

Round the Island Row

Any club memebers interested in rowing around the island next Sunday should make contact with Danny Hayes ASAP. Its not a race just a fund raising event for some very good causes.

The main charitable beneficiary this year is Marymount Hospice in Cork who will receive 50% of the proceeds with the rest being divided between Co-Action West Cork, RNLI and the Simon Community organization. This Marymount Hospice unit is very well known to people in Cork and further afield as it provides pain therapy and hospice care to those that are terminally ill.

Due to the cancellation of both Schull and Glandore regattas in recent weeks a number of Championship titles were still up for grabs and the Galley crews were ready and willing to fight for them. Clear skies, a warm breeze and calm waters greeted the clubs and the day began with the remainder of races from Schull regatta.

Full All Ireland Report

It was all planes, trains and automobiles last weekend as the crews and supporters of the Galley Flash Rowing Club journeyed north for the All Ireland Coastal Rowing Championships in Cairndhu. The weekend started off with the qualifying heats on Saturday. Rough waters and rain did little to deter the Galley crews who all performed well in their heats and successfully qualified for Sundays finals.
Sunday itself opened with a minutes silence in honour of Elspeth Murray and was soon followed by the first races of the day.
Galleys under 12 girls, Zoe Taylor, Sionad Myles, Fiona Tobin and Claire McCarthy had a great race. The girls did the club proud as they powered through the water to finish in 6th place. The girls also represented the club in the Under 12 mixed final. Danny Hayes coxed the team again to come back across the line in 9th position.>>>>>>>read on>>>>>>>>>

Short Summary on All Ireland, full report to follow!

While a full report will follow here is a short summary of the All Ireland Weekend detailing some of the races.
Crews that competed for Ardfield Rathbarry Rowing Club were the U12, U12 Girls, U14 Girls, U16 Girls (Silver), U18 Girls, Junior Ladies, Pre Vet Ladies, Junior Men (4th), Senior Men (Bronze)

Saturdays heats were a race against time and mother nature as the U12 Ladies and U21 Ladies finals fell victim to the poor conditions. The heats of the U14 Ladies and Senior Men were also called off meaning the lane draws for the heats stayed for the finals the following day.

Sunday promised to have better conditions and it did not disappoint with the Sun fighting through for the majority of the Day.
All our crews acquitted themselves well and were unlucky to end up with some outside lane draws with the worst of the conditions. But that as they say is the luck of the draw and you have to play the cards you are dealt.
Our U16 Ladies rowed a great race and led off the start. They were eventually overtaken by a strong Sive team at the turn and finished in a clear second place. While disappointed 3 of the girls picked themselves up for the U18 ladies final an hour later. Unfortunately the county champions were in an outside lane and were eventually 4th. Our Junior men rowed a fantastic race. In a close finish our boys just lost out on a medal to Rushbrooke. The eventual winners were Crosshaven for a 3rd year in a row. In fact this junior team had beaten our present senior men 3 years ago in Wexford.

Medal for Elspeth

Our club would like to thank the Federation for the medal presented in respect of Elspeth Murray. Our Chairman Donal Hayes received the medal on the club and family's behalf. It was one of many things over the weekend that showed the spirit within coastal rowing. The federation also had a book of condolence open at the finals while a minute silence was also held by the huge crowds attending.
